André Schmitz
The former State Secretary for Culture of Berlin was interested in Bröhan’s Bauhaus Collection in 2008 (then still as head of the Berlin Senate Chancellery and close confident of Berlin’s ex-mayor Klaus Wowereit) and supported the idea of keeping the collection in Berlin and initiated an investigation into which property could be considered as the location of the collection. Ultimately the purchase fell through due to budgetary constraints. In February 2014 it became known that Schmitz had evaded taxes over several years amounting to about 22,000 Euros.
